You Made Me Love You

...I didn't wanna do it.

Yesterday started out just like every other day.

Up around 6:15, breakfast, got everyone to school and work, came home, let Buddy in, did some laundry, Zac got home, then we went to pick up Jake at school.

We headed out to get Jake and decided that since it was a nice day, we'd leave Buddy outside while we were gone. Once we got Jake, we went in to Baton Rouge to help decorate for the Youth Mardi Gras ball. I guess we got home around 8:30 or 9:00.

The back gate was open, which was not unusual. Buddy usually gets bored and climbs the gate and opens it and goes for a run in the pasture across the street. He loves barking at and chasing the cows. He always comes back.

This time he didn't.

I got a call this morning about 7:30 from a guy who found him on the side of the road about 5 miles away from our house. Last time I took Buddy for his shots, I scratched his name and my phone number on the back of his rabies tag, knowing we'd be getting this call one day.

George went and picked up his body and we buried him in the back yard.

By this time, the kids were up and we told them. They're okay. They're already talking about what kind of dog to get next time, but I know they're sad.

Dadgum, that dog. He made me love him, even if I didn't want to.

RIP, Buddy.

Oh, no, Jana!! We're all so sad for you guys. I'm so sorry. We only met Buddy once, but we loved him, too--he was a very lovable dog.

I'm sorry for your loss. We lost our long-time friend, Butler, about a year and a half ago and it took us a while to get over it. A new dog works wonders though once you are ready as our beagle Lucy can testify to.
